Preobrazhenskoe Jewish Cemetery
The Preobrazhenskoe Jewish Cemetery was founded in 1875. It was a part of the larger Preobrazhenskoe Cemetery complex in St. Petersburg until it became separate at the beginning of the twentieth century. Burials in the Jewish cemetery were carried out from 1875 to 1968, when the city closed the cemetery for burials, except for sub burials in the graves of family members. It is estimated that there are about eighty thousand graves in the Jewish cemetery, which spans 27.4 hectares.
